This research report seeks to advance the industry’s knowledge and understanding of CT for pipeline applications. Multiple pipeline samples with various crack and crack-like features commonly found in gas transmission and hazardous liquid pipelines were examined with non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques, scanned with CT, and characterized by Destructive Testing (DT). Through the examination and discussion of the results, a more thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of CT for pipeline applications is achieved. In addition, a scanning protocol that is designed to achieve more consistent and reliable data from CT on pipeline samples was developed and is presented.
