Abstract
This report describes the results of a study to identify susceptibility criteria for the integrity threat to pipelines posed by “hard spots” that were introduced in certain varieties of line pipe in the pipe manufacturing process. Historical pipeline failures and past research were reviewed, collected data was analyzed, and a susceptibility ranking process was developed. Recommendations for management of the integrity threat posed by hard spots are made. Suggestions for further research are also presented.
