PR363-256006-R01 Data Driven Models for Flow Measurement Instrumentation
Abstract
The reliability of recalibration intervals for flow measurement instrumentation is critical to maintaining measurement confidence and operational efficiency in pipeline and process measurement systems. Current industry practice typically relies on fixed, time-based recalibration schedules that do not explicitly account for instrument stability, diagnostic capability, or historical performance, which can result in inefficient calibration practices.
This document addresses the application of data-driven approaches for defining recalibration and verification intervals for pressure transmitters, ultrasonic flowmeters, and Coriolis flowmeters. The objective is to evaluate how historical calibration data, field proving data, and available diagnostic information can be used to support recalibration strategies that move beyond fixed calendar-based intervals while maintaining measurement assurance.
This document aims to help asset integrity engineers, metering engineers, and measurement specialists incorporate data-driven recalibration concepts into internal procedures and specifications. It provides guidance on the types of data required, analytical frameworks that may be applied, and key considerations for implementation to support consistent, evidence-based calibration management practices.
