PR335-223809-R01 Evaluation of XRCT for Pipe Sample Flaw Characterization
Abstract
This research report seeks to advance the industry’s knowledge and understanding of CT for pipeline applications. Multiple pipeline samples with various crack and crack-like features commonly found in gas transmission and hazardous liquid pipelines were examined with non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques, scanned with CT, and characterized by Destructive Testing (DT). Through the examination and discussion of the results, a more thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of CT for pipeline applications is achieved. In addition, a scanning protocol that is designed to achieve more consistent and relia ble data from CT on pipeline samples was developed and is presented.
