PR-15-523-R01 High Energy Ignition Systems for Spark-Ignited Natural Gas Engines
Abstract
The work effort included in this interim report involved the determination of the ignition system requirements to enable using air-fuel ratios sufficiently lean to produce less than 4 g/bhp-hr NO emissions and of the potential availability of such systems. Emphasis was placed on ignition systems which would not require any mechanical modifications to the engine.
The effort in this project involved the following:
· Collection and review of published literature
· Obtaining information from ignition system manufacturers
· Contacting gas engine manufacturers
Requesting information from AGA member companies
· Discussions with SwRI personnel
· Contacting several other potential sources of information
