L00037 Line Pipe Coating Analysis Volume 2 Topical Report on Adhesion
Abstract
Several questions have been raised in the past regarding the adhesion of pipe coatings. These questions were: What is the nature of the adhesiveness between coating and substrate? How does this characteristic vary with material and with processing history? And what causes bond failure?
The technical literature concerned with the above questions is bountiful, and the specific knowledge and research techniques have advanced to a fairly sophisticated level. The objective of the work covered by this report was to explore the technical literature concerning adhesion, particularly with reference to the adhesion of pipe line coatings to steel pipe, to prepare a critical review of the present state-of-the-art, and to locate obvious gaps in our knowledge.
