ARF-B566-R01 Investigation of the Notch Toughness of Gas Line Pipe Steels
Abstract
Charpy V-notch impact tests of longitudinally welded line-pipe steels representative of the steel being used by the gas line-pipe industry. The tests were made on the steel of welded pipe specimens from 198 heats of steel submitted by six pipe manufacturers in sizes of pipe from 2O in. to 34 in. in diameter and from 0.281″ to 0.375″ wall thickness. All of the impact tests were from the fabricated and expanded pipe; the tested steel was away from the weld about 90 ° from the longitudinal weld. The Charpy bars were two-thirds of the normal thickness. All of the steels were tested transversely and some also longitudinally.
