PRCI Subsea Pipeline Integrity Management Workshop Completed
As previously reported in the July 2010 edition of Throughput, PRCI sponsored a Subsea Pipeline Integrity Management (SPIM) Workshop in Houston, TX on September 2, 2010. The workshop was well attended, with over 45 participants from pipeline operating companies, technology and integrity management consultants and vendors, and other partnering research organizations. The workshop included a series of opening presentations to frame the key issues and challenges confronting the pipeline industry with regard to integrity management of subsea lines, followed by a breakout session where 4 separate groups conducted focused discussions and developed a series of gaps and priorities for a comprehensive SPIM program. The primary gaps and research needs identified include:
- Baseline system confirmation/Line validation
- Defining criteria and Best Practices for unpiggable lines
- Developing Technologies for Inspection & Repair, Response Preparedness
- Developing an industry accepted Methodology for Hazard Analysis and Risk Ranking/Management
- Corrosion control, coatings performance and cathodic protection criteria
PRCI is finalizing the compilation of the information exchanged during the workshop and developing a report on the workshop outcomes, which will include a Roadmap for future research to address SPIM. The Roadmap will be used by PRCI and our research partners to continuously monitor progress relative the current identified gaps and to provide a mechanism for capturing additional gaps identified through the implementation of the ongoing research efforts. Please contact Mark Piazza, Program Manager at PRCI, with any questions.
