PRCI Releases Two Surveys for Technologies – Industry Response Needed
PRCI, in coordination with our research partners, recently released two separate surveys that have been developed to gather information needed to support two separate projects that are focused on NDE inspection technologies. PRCI requests that each member company take the time to complete the survey and return the forms to support the projects. The information provided through the surveys is an important first step to framing the primary issues for each of these inspection technology projects and will help guide the remaining portion of the larger programs going forward. In addition to PRCI member companies, the survey has been distributed to a broad cross-section of the pipeline industry, including other research contractors that have experience in this area of pipeline inspection, inspection vendors and service providers, and other R&D organizations. The two projects that are seeking information include:
Automated Floating Roof Seal Integrity Reporting Technology for In-Service Tanks – PRCI Project Reference IM 2-3
This project is evaluating the development of automated technology for measuring and monitoring seal gaps for internal floating roof tanks (IFRTs) at liquids breakout facilities. The objective of this initiative is to develop remote monitoring technologies to increase the safety of the IFRT infrastructure and permit operators to extend the currently regulated IFRT internal inspection interval from 10 years to 20 years (as recommended by API 653).
The survey can be accessed here.
NDE & Inspection Techniques Applied to the Assessment of Integrity of Composite Wrap Repairs – PRCI Project Reference NDE 2-3
This project is an initial assessment by PRCI of NDE and inspection techniques applied to composite repairs. The survey/questionnaire is directed at gathering information from a broad cross-section of the pipeline industry on the performance of NDE technologies for inspecting pipelines with composite materials. As composite materials continue to be studied and gain support in the pipeline industry, inspection methods to ensure their continued and long-term performance will be needed. The outcome of the survey, and more broadly the PRCI NDE 2-3 Project, is to establish the current State-of-the –Art for composite repair inspection and NDE, which will define the additional research needed in this area.
The survey for composite materials inspection and NDE can be accessed through PRCI’s PRIME system.
