PRCI Presents at Recent Research Seminar Hosted by the EPCRC in Australia
The Energy Pipeline Cooperative Research Center (EPCRC) hosted its second annual Research Seminar at the University of Wollongong, NSW Australia on June 7th, 2011.
PRCI and the EPCRC are exploring opportunities to work together to obtain the greatest benefit from the research being conducted in the pipeline arena. We are in the early stages of developing a relationship that may enable us to create a coordinated the research program in common areas.
The EPCRC has been in existence since January 2010 with the mission to provide the Australian energy pipeline industry with the technology necessary to extend the life of the existing natural gas transmission network and to build better transmission networks at lower cost to support increased demand for energy in Australia and the region. The EPCRC is supported by $27M (AUS) in combined Australian government and industry funding and in-kind contributions over a ten year period. The EPCRC is conducting research that is directly linked to the industry’s requirements, organized into four primary Research Programs (RPs):
- RP1 – More Efficient Use of Materials for Energy Pipelines
- RP2 – Extension of Safe Operating Life of New and Existing Energy Pipelines
- RP3 – Advanced Design & Construction of Energy Pipelines
- RP4 – Public Safety and Security of Supply of Energy Pipelines
The Research Seminar on June 7th, 2011 reported on the ongoing research in these areas, which included 29 research projects. PRCI Senior Research Manager, Max Toch, represented PRCI at the Seminar. He provided an overview of the PRCI program and looking for areas for possible cooperative research. He met separately with the EPCRC Board of Directors who met in Wollongong on June 8th, 2011 and the Australian Pipeline Industry Association Research and Standards Committee (APIA-RSC). APIA-RSC, a PRCI member, provides vital industry guidance to the EPCRC research program.
