IPC 2010 Showcases PRCI Leadership in Pipeline Research

The 2010 International Pipeline Conference & Exposition held in Calgary in September, prominently highlighted PRCI through both its support as a conference sponsor and the substantial contributions by our member companies and their representatives, many of whom played key roles in organizing and leading the technical program. In addition, there were numerous technical papers and presentations included in the conference proceedings and a number of the Tutorials that were based on PRCI research projects and programs. PRCI Board Member Ian Nielson of BP was a featured speaker. PRCI member company representatives and staff also participated on a panel that addressed improvements for in-line inspection technology for seam weld anomalies, and supported the conferences as either Track Chair/co-Chair or Session Leader.

One of the most significant awards associated with the IPC is the “Best Technical Paper,” which is awarded based on the content and quality of the technical paper included in the conference proceedings and the presentation of that material provided at the conference. The selection is made based on a review by an expert panel of pipeline and research professionals and is chosen from a preliminary list of 25 papers that were initially reviewed as being of substantially high quality to be considered as a best paper candidate. Of the papers selected for consideration for Best Technical Paper, many were related to PRCI research projects. Though none were selected as the recipient of the best technical paper award, the number included in the top 25 list is a substantial accomplishment when considering the magnitude of the conference and the competition among technical experts for having papers approved.
