In Memory of Marina Q. Smith
August 7, 1966 – September 21, 2007
On September 21, 2007 our industry, and so many of us who work toward its success and sustainability, lost a valued friend and colleague, Marina Q. Smith. Apart from being a shocking and incomprehensible tragedy, Marina’s death takes from us a professional of enormous talent, commitment, and vision. So much of our recent success in the research we have done over the last ten years in pipeline integrity has been achieved through Marina’s contributions. She was tireless in the performance of her work, and she rightfully was regarded as an expert in the fields of structural design and performance. The enormity of our loss is measured in her contributions.
Working in conjunction with Marina’s alma mater, Texas A&M University, and with the support of CC Technologies, PRCI has established at the University the “Marina Q. Smith Memorial Scholarship” to honor Marina’s memory and her contributions to the energy pipeline industry. In addition, we intend by this scholarship to contribute to the critical need for the next generations of pipeline engineers who will be called upon to help assure the future success of the industry.
We invite you to make a contribution to the Scholarship fund. Please click the link below to download a description of the Scholarship along with guidance on how to contribute. It is our hope that in addition to the generous contributions of PRCI’s member companies and CC Technologies, we will receive the funds necessary to make the Scholarship a substantial inducement to highly qualified candidates to pursue a career in the energy pipeline industry or related fields. In considering whether and to what degree to participate in the Scholarship, we also ask that you make this information available to others with whom you deal in order to enable them to make this gesture in Marina’s memory.
